To realise the true nature & dynamic of one thing
is to realise the true nature & dynamic of everything.
Why?
Because everything has the same unique inconceivable all-pervading timeless unborn unconditioned unchanging unceasing pristine Ground / Basis / Source / Buddha-nature / Genuine-emptiness / Suchness / True nature & dynamic as it is / Union of the Two Truths [U2T]. Everything is manifestations inseparable from this Ground. Everything is display of this unique Ground [UGM].

The true nature of a Buddha is the true nature of the worst defilement;
the same as the true nature of any atom or galaxy.
.
Scientists try to understand the true nature of objects and relations / laws.
Buddhists try to realise the true nature of their own mind.
Their search must necessarily converge because there is only one Reality as it is, and it is beyond dualities like: subject / mind vs. objects / phenomena vs. relations / actions / processes, appearance vs. emptiness, appearance vs. reality.
The question is: Why do many Buddhists concentrate their efforts into trying to realise the true nature of one thing: the true nature & dynamic of their own mind as the Union of being cognizant and empty of inherent existence?
What are the pros and cons of this approach?
Is this the unique valid approach?
Are scientists too objectivist / materialist / phenomena-only,
and Buddhist too subjectivist / idealist / mind-only?]

Why? Because the true nature & dynamic of the Ground / Awareness / Brahman / U2T … is also like
a Union of being e̲m̲p̲t̲y̲ ̲o̲f̲ ̲i̲n̲h̲e̲r̲e̲n̲t̲ ̲e̲x̲i̲s̲t̲e̲n̲c̲e̲ [T2-Ground] <==>
because of being conventionally d̲e̲p̲e̲n̲d̲e̲n̲t̲l̲y̲ ̲c̲o̲-̲a̲r̲i̲s̲e̲n̲ ̲(̲i̲n̲t̲e̲r̲d̲e̲p̲e̲n̲d̲e̲n̲t̲)̲ ̲r̲e̲l̲a̲t̲i̲v̲e̲l̲y̲ ̲f̲u̲n̲c̲t̲i̲o̲n̲a̲l̲ ever-changing impermanent appearance / tool / adapted skillful means / antidote / counterpoint [T1-Ground],
m̲e̲r̲e̲l̲y̲ ̲l̲a̲b̲e̲l̲e̲d̲ ̲/̲ ̲i̲m̲p̲u̲t̲e̲d̲ ̲/̲ ̲i̲m̲a̲g̲i̲n̲e̲d̲ ̲b̲y̲ ̲t̲h̲e̲ ̲m̲i̲n̲d̲ in dependence of its past experience / conditioning / karma [U3S-Ground].
And vice versa; one aspect / truth implies / proves / enables / supports / is in harmony with the other aspect / truth [U2T-Ground].
The Ground / Awareness / Brahman / U2T … is also l̲i̲k̲e̲ ̲s̲p̲a̲c̲e̲,̲ ̲i̲l̲l̲u̲s̲i̲o̲n̲s̲, reflections, mirages, dreams, echos, rainbows, magical tricks: ‘There, but not there.’ [U2T-Ground]
-
The Ground / Awareness / Brahman / U2T … is also
not really arisen / caused / e̲x̲i̲s̲t̲e̲n̲t̲ / changing /ceasing,
not completely non-arisen / non-caused / n̲o̲n̲-̲e̲x̲i̲s̲t̲e̲n̲t̲ / non-changing / non-ceasing,
not both together, not neither;
not purely s̲u̲b̲j̲e̲c̲t̲i̲v̲e̲ / mind, not purely o̲b̲j̲e̲c̲t̲i̲v̲e̲ / phenomena,
not purely r̲e̲l̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲a̲l̲ / process / action / karma, not a combination of them, not none of them;
not equal / p̲u̲r̲e̲ / perfect / divine / complete / free / enlightened,
not unequal / i̲m̲p̲u̲r̲e̲ / imperfect / ordinary / incomplete / bounded / unenlightened,
not both together, not neither;
not p̲e̲r̲m̲a̲n̲e̲n̲t̲ / continuous / eternal, not i̲m̲p̲e̲r̲m̲a̲n̲e̲n̲t̲ / discontinuous / annihilated,
not both together, not neither;
not ‘this’, not ‘non-this’, not both together, not neither – for whatever ‘this’ is [Tetralemma-Ground].
-
Meaning the true nature & dynamic of the Ground / Awareness / Brahman / U2T … is
indescribable / inconceivable for our flawed conditioned dualistic conceptual mind(s);
it is beyond all opposites / dualities;
beyond all extremes & middle, beyond all dualistic conceptual proliferations,
beyond all defining limitations, beyond all conditioning / karma (individual, collective, cosmic);
beyond all description / conceptualisation, differentiation / discrimination,
causality / production / laws, form / matter-energy, space & time.
-
𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 / 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 / 𝘽𝙧𝙖𝙝𝙢𝙖𝙣 / 𝙐2𝙏
is NOT really one, all-pervasive, timeless, limitless, eternal, unborn, unconditioned, unchanging, unceasing, pristine.
Because it is even beyond all of these dualistic concepts: it is not ‘this’, not ‘non-this’ …
-
𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 / 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 / 𝘽𝙧𝙖𝙝𝙢𝙖𝙣 / 𝙐2𝙏 is inseparable / interdependent / co-defined / co-relative / co-dependent / co-emergent / co-evolving / co-ceasing / co-transcended with its 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 / 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨.
That is the Union of the relative and absolute; the Union of the illusory and real;
𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙏𝙬𝙤 𝙏𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙨 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨,
𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 [𝗨𝗚𝗠 / 𝗨𝟮𝗧-𝗚𝗠].
-
So, please, do not get stuck at the level of “𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 / 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 / 𝘽𝙧𝙖𝙝𝙢𝙖𝙣 / 𝙐2𝙏.”
It is not the real true nature & dynamic of Reality as it is;
it is merely a concept-pointer to the inconceivable.
And a better concept-pointer is
𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 / 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 / 𝘽𝙧𝙖𝙝𝙢𝙖𝙣 / 𝙐2𝙏 … 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 [𝙐𝙂𝙈 / 𝙐2𝙏-𝙂𝙈].
-
There is no 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 / 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 / 𝘽𝙧𝙖𝙝𝙢𝙖𝙣 / 𝙐2𝙏 without any 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 / 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨; and vice versa. One cannot exist without the other, or prior to the other, or finally without the other.
.
So we can use these concept-pointers – like an inconceivable unique all-pervasive timeless limitless unborn unconditioned unchanging unceasing pristine 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 / Basis / Source / Buddha-nature / Genuine-emptiness / Pure-Mind / Unconditioned-Knowing / Primordial-𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 / Pristine-𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 / 𝘽𝙧𝙖𝙝𝙢𝙖𝙣 / Atman / Self / Pure Being / Suchness / 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙏𝙬𝙤 𝙏𝙧𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙨 [U2T / U2T-3S / U2T-opp / U2T-2T] – conventionally / relatively / inter-subjectively, but never in absolute terms; using them without apprehending / differentiating / opposing anything in absolute terms; using them without falling into one extremes or middle: Extremes like eternalism, nihilism, dualism / pluralism, monism / oneness, subjectivism / idealism, objectivism / materialism, relationism, processism, etc.

𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 ~ Ajahn Anan
.
We meditate to get to know our mind.
But that doesn’t mean we think, “I’ve got to be peaceful!”
If we think and attach in this way then we’ll tend to get irritated with ourself when we’re not peaceful.
Our aim is just to know the mind.
And when we’re working on developing constant awareness, this will include times when we are not very peaceful, when there are thoughts and distractions coming up.
So we just know, “Oh, now the mind is distracted.”
There will also be times when our mindfulness and concentration are strong and the hindrances disappear.
At those times we are aware that, “Now the mind is peaceful. Now the mind is calm and concentrated.”
Whatever the experience, we know it for what it is.
That’s our aim.

Recognizing buddha-nature, the ultimate truth,
is the final aim of mind training.
True meditation is based on wisdom.
.
What is buddha-nature?
Its essence is emptiness [T2] and its nature is clear luminosity [T1]
[and its compassionate energy is the inseparability of the two first aspects [U2T]].
.
These two qualities are not actually separate,
so true nature is described as
the unity of emptiness and clarity [U2T / Union of the Two Truths about the mind].
.
It is free from all ordinary conceptual frameworks and elaborations.
It is the ultimate nature of mind, just as it is, uncontrived, resting in its own ground.

.
Through practice, the conditions that obscure us from [directly] seeing and experiencing mind’s true nature [U2T] are gradually refined away.

THE GROUND: From Rigpawiki:
"The Ground of Dzogchen is the fundamental, primordial state, our absolute nature (Buddha-nature), which is already perfect and always present.
It is described as being endowed with three qualities:
its essence, its nature and its compassionate energy.
Although conceptually we make distinctions between them, these three qualities of the ground of being are united.
.
(1 - T2) The first quality is that its essence is empty, being primordial purity or kadak.
(i.e. It is the second truth: EMPTINESS)
.
(2 - T1) The second quality is that its nature is cognizant, being spontaneous presence or lhundrup (Tib. ལྷུན་སྒྲུབ་, Wyl. lhun sgrub).
(i.e. It is the first truth: dependent origination, causality, functionality, LUMINOSITY, clarity ...)
.
(3 - U2T) The third quality of the Ground is its compassionate energy (Tib. ཐུགས་རྗེ་, tukjé, Wyl. thugs rje). Just as the sky and sunlight are indivisible, so the empty essence and cognizant nature are always a unity. This inseparability or unity is called ‘compassionate energy’, the manifestation of the compassionate energy of the enlightened mind.
(i.e. It is the inseparability / Union of the Two Truths: Union of dependent origination / appearance and emptiness; or UNION OF LUMINOSITY AND EMPTINESS. It means that everything is appearing but empty; empty but still continually uninterruptedly dependently appearing and relatively functional. Ex. the mind is empty but still cognizant / functional.)
.
Conclusion 'compassionate energy' is the inter-relation between emptiness [T2] and luminosity / cognizance / functionality [T1]; it is the Union of the Two Truths [U2T].
It is indeed transcending emptiness [T2] and luminosity [T1], because it is not merely emptiness [T2-only], not merely luminosity [T1-only], not both truths together [2T], not neither [1T].
Meaning it is indescribable, inconceivable,
but still we call it the Union of the two truths, or compassionate energy.
"Energy" because even if everything is empty, appearances still continually unceasingly uninterruptedly appear spontaneously from the Ground / U2T. The inseparability of the two aspects is the energy that produces everything; there is no need for anything else for a Universe of appearances and functionalities to emerge.
"Compassionate" because all of these appearances / manifestations are teaching us the liberating truth, the true nature & dynamic of Reality as it is, the Union of the Two Truths.
.
Those three characteristics of the Ground -- essence, nature and compassionate energy are also liked to the three kayas: dharmakaya, sambhogakaya and nirmanakaya. But that is related to the practices of the Tantrayana / Vajrayana.
